Carrots make an excellent chew and are a great way to clean your dog’s teeth.

One of the biggest misconceptions people have about their animal companions is that Home-cooked animal foods do not clean teeth. The truth is that while soft foods can leave animals with a plaque build-up, natural foods like Vondi’s pet Nutrition have large chunks of WELL-COOKED meat and vegetables such as lentils, peas and  pealed barley. Having chunkier ingredients is the way that dogs are meant to eat. Feeding your animal companion the right diet can not only have massive benefits for health and skin, but will make a huge difference in keeping your canine’s canines clean

Many corporate animal foods have pumped resources in to building the belief that pellets and kibble will clean your animal companion’s teeth. The logic behind this is quite flawed. Imagine your dentist suggesting you clean your teeth by chewing rusks. A problem that can often arise from eating kibble is that the dry-biscuit style food forms a paste on our dogs teeth, much like when we eat a rusk or cookie. Unlike humans, dogs are not able to use their tongues to clean the build up of paste off their teeth like we can. This paste hardens and forms a layer of plaque on your dogs teeth that will cause rot and decay by fermenting and building up bacteria.

The best way to clean your dog’s teeth is to ensure that they have regular chews. Soft chews like ostrich tendons, raw hides and leather chews will ensure that your animals teeth and gums stay clean and healthy. Another great way to keep your dog’s teeth clean and healthy is to offer them vegetables such as carrots, broccoli and cabbage. If you are not sure if a certain vegetable is okay for your pooch then be sure to double check first. Carrots, broccoli and cabbage are particularly useful in the fight against doggy tooth decay.

It is important to use logic in our animal companion’s diet (and our own). We know that sticking to a natural and healthy diet is just full of benefits, so what makes that any different for animals? After all, can you imagine if a person decided to survive off of a diet of nothing but water and biscuits.
